This exciting partnership sees 6 local schools take part in a short story writing completion

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust (RUCST) has teamed up with local Author Peter Murray and 6 local schools to run a creative writing competition where the winners will see their stories published in the latest edition of the popular book series Mokee Joe.

This exciting partnership sees St Annes Junior & Infants, Redscope Juniors, East Dene, kimberworth Park, Badsley Moor Primary and Herringthorpe Junior take part in a short story writing completion which is celebrating the authors 10 year anniversary as a local Rotherham author. Each school will run a series of creative writing sessions and with visits from the Millers very own Miller Bear and first team players who will inspire the young people to write a spooky story about a group of school children who attend an old derelict ground without permission at night where they find it is haunted by Mokee Joe and a former fans favourite of the club.

Rotherham United and the Trust have donated 6 signed sets of the Mokee Joe books and free family tickets to see a match at the magnificent New York Stadium. The winners will see their words then incorporated into the new book which will hopefully be released in 2015.

Jamie Noble, head of Community said” We love getting involved in initiatives which see imaginative ways getting children reading and writing. When I heard Peters talking with such passion about his books I knew we couldn’t fail with making this project a success.” “It’s like the gaffer on a Saturday, his passion is contagious and as a football club we want to be involved in making a difference to literacy levels in the town.”

“This is just one of a number of schemes we are working on, but it highlights what fantastic work we do as a football club for our young fans.”

Peter Murray said “My new book is inspired by the club. We will be launching the book with the writing contest run by Rotherham United Community Sports Trust. It’s all very exciting”
