The Healthy Hearts Project is funded by Heart Research UK with sessions aimed at improving the health of disabled adults through a mixture of healthy eating and health work and physical activity.

Oaks Day Centre have been taking part within this project since January and as part of this we previously went to Sherwood Forrest in June as part of National Walking month. Following on the success of this day, participants went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park on Friday 13th June. After participants commented on how much they enjoyed the first walk and found it very beneficial to their health.

Emma Harrison said “It was a lovely day, the participants had a great time and the weather was perfect. The group thoroughly enjoy walking and have added it to their healthier lifestyle. We are hoping to run more organised walks in the future with this group and others.”

The sessions at Oaks have proved to be successful with 70% of participant losing weight and improving their lifestyles. Sessions continue to run every Friday 10:30am-12:00pm.
