Reserve experience vital

Academy Manager Garreth Barker talks to

Academy Manager Garreth Barker was full of praise for his players who featured in a strong Millers Reserve team on Monday afternoon.

The Millers included senior professionals Scott Shearer, Richard Brindley, Claude Davis, Michael O’Connor, Haris Vuckic, Blair Turgott, Wes Thomas and Danny Hylton in the side which beat Scunthrope 2-1.

However, it was the three second year scholars that Barker kept an eye on with the likes of Danny Rowe, Connor Johnson and Reece Lucas all starting the game.

“It was pleasing to see three second years getting the experience of playing alongside the senior professionals,” Barker told

“Dan Rowe was the captain which was nice to see and all three did well. Reece Lucas played in a different role in midfield and I thought he adapted well, whilst the lads who came on, Aryton Bevins and Conor Bell, played a part in the winning goal.”

The under 18s are back in action this weekend against Doncaster Rovers at the Graham Solley Sports Centre.

“Last week we had a free weekend so we had an inter-squad game at the training ground to keep the lads sharp,” explained Barker.

“The lads have trained well so far this week and we are looking forward to the game at home to Doncaster Rovers.”
