Rotherham United loanee wants promotion...

New Rotherham United loanee Richard Smallwood is looking to help the Millers towards promotion, after signing from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

Smallwood, 23, who has featured more than a dozen times for Boro this season joined the Millers yesterday and is already on board with Steve Evans’ aims for the campaign.

“I’m excited now, hopefully I can get some games and help the club where they want to be, which is the Championship,” Richard told Millers Player.

“I played here in pre-season, it’s a nice stadium and it’s a good team who gave us a good test. They play at high intensity and press all over the pitch with some real quality going forward which should give us a good chance for the rest of the season. The facilities are good, the stadium is first class and the training facilities are good too.”

Not short of match practice, Smallwood is expected to be in the squad for tomorrow’s fixture against Crawley Town but he’s not looking ahead any further at this moment in time.

“The short-term aim is just to get as many games as possible and then the long-term will look after itself. I’m just here to do some talking on the pitch and see what happens. The gaffer just said work hard, earn the right to get picked and enjoy it,” he added.
