New Partnership for Girls Football

17 January 2014

Rotherham United Girls and Brinsworth Whitehill have formed partnership to construct Rotherham United WGFC.

This will see Brinsworth Whitehill playing under the Rotherham United Girls umberella. There is both an U13’s and U18’s team.

The Launch of Rotherham United WGFC took place during the Rotherham United v Wolves game, where at half time the girls played a friendly match against each other to showcase their new partnership.

Lee Cardwell, Rotherham United WGFC Manager said “We at Brinsworth Whitehill have run girls teams for a number of years but we were finding it difficult to attract new girls to football. We also wanted an outlet for when the girls finish at under 18’s level.

“The partnership with Rotherham United and Rotherham United Ladies enables us to develop girls’ football locally. We are running training for girls of which we invite anyone to come down. This will hopefully grow and we can then have girls’ teams playing at most if not all age levels. The ultimate goal for the girls will then be to go on play for Rotherham United Ladies first team.

“Our current under 18’s will form the nucleus for the Ladies Reserve Team for next season and we hope that some will go on to progress to first team football. We are starting to see the fruition of the partnership already, over the last week we have had a girl referred from RUFC Ladies who has signed with our under 13’s team and a girl has started training with us referred from RUSCT, who we hope will be the start of a new under 12’s team to be formed.”

Jamie Noble, Head of Community said “This is a fantastic development for women and girls football. It’s about creating pathways for the girls and this will enable them to feed the Rotherham United Ladies team for years to come.”
