The Millers start 2014 with a win...

Rotherham United started 2014 with a bang after a comprehensive 4-0 victory over Scunthrope United.

After the grass pitch was deemed unplayable due to the weather a switch to the synthetic surface did little to disrupt the Millers, who earned a well deserved victory thanks to goals from Reece Lucas, Connor Bell, Jerry Yates and James Cadman.

“We had to cancel the game on grass because of the inclement weather and instead played the match on the 4G pitch at Sheffield Hallam University,” said Academy Manager Garreth Barker.

“The lads had trained really well so I was delighted that we were able to get the game on as a reward for their persistence during the week. We have changed training slightly to incorporate more fitness and conditioning so the lads were made to work really hard, and hopefully we will get the rewards over the coming weeks.

“Everyone had an excellent game, I really couldn’t pick out any individuals, it was just a terrific team performance. We had a good mixture of first and second year scholars in the team which was good to see and overall I didn’t feel the scoreline flattered us, we were good value for the 4-0 win, against a good Scunthorpe side who had chances of their own.”

The Millers have a free weekend this week before returning to action again against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday 25th January.
