Soccer AM Futsal Cup Round 2

19 February 2014

Sponsored by

On Tuesday 11th February Rotherham United Futsal Team travelled to Birmingham Arena to take part in the Soccer Am Futsal Cup.

The top three sides in Group 8 of the Cup all finished on six points, with Rotherham United the unlucky side to miss out on goal difference.

The Millers began with a 2-0 win over Carlisle United and a staggering 7-1 win over Southend United but were made to pay for their 5-1 defeat to Bradford City. That result took the Bantams into second spot behind Carlisle United who recovered from defeat to Rotherham to claim top spot with wins over Bradford City and Southend United.

Andy Warrington, Futsal Coordinator said “It was unfortunate that Rotherham United didn’t make it through as they played so well as a team, it was a shame that we had to go out on goal difference. I would like to thank all the team for their extraordinary effort.”

Alex Nightingale, Futsal Coach said “It was a very disappointing result in the end despite two excellent performances in the first two games. Although it wasn’t to be in the end the boys really enjoyed the experience which we can take forward in the League and National Cup.”

Andy Warrington and Alex Nightingale are currently recruiting for the next cohort of players due to start in September 2014. The Futsal Scholarship is a mix of practical and theory based learning where they will achieve a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 3 A levels) whilst being able to play in both Regional and National Futsal leagues.
