Young side slip to defeat...

A youthful Rotherham United were comfortably beaten by Hartlepool United.

Ali Watson almost put the Millers in front early in the game only to be denied by Andy Rafferty in the Pools goal. That’s about as good as it got for the visitors who were 3-0 down before the half-hour mark. Goals from Zak Boagey, Lewis Hawkins and Greg Rutherford tying up the game early on.

Jordan Deacey and Dan Jones also netted to make it 5-0 before half-time. Watson again had a chance early in the half thanks to some good work down the left by Nicky Walker but he failed to hit the target and the home side’s clean sheet remained in tact.

Rutherford netted his second and Hartlepool’s sixth on the hour mark to compound a disappointing trip to the north east.

Millers: Thompson, Hallett, Wigley, Rowe, Lucas, Johnson, Cadman, Watson, Walker, Bell, Bevins.
Subs: Bryan, Warren, Williamson, Yates, Norfolk.
