Final Third Development League Digest

17 February 2014

Much like the whole of the UK, the Final Third Development League has been affected by extreme weather over the past week.

Of the six scheduled fixtures, only one managed to survive the wet and windy conditions as Wigan Athletic and Port Vale contested a 0-0 draw on Tuesday afternoon.

That match from the West Division pitted first against third, ensuring the Latics remain top of the league on 16 points from seven games played. Walsall are second with 15 points from eight matches, and Vale third with 14, also from eight.

Three fixtures in the West Division were postponed, as were two in Group B of the Final Third Development League Cup.

Rotherham United v Mansfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday v Hartlepool United were the affected Cup matches, with both Mansfield and Hartlepool denied the opportunity – for the time being – of progressing into the Semi-Finals.

The Stags’ trip to Rotherham has been re-arranged for Monday 17th February when a draw will be enough to see them crowned as Group B winners and join Leicester City in the last four.

Other games next week include Fleetwood Town v Morecambe in Group C of the Cup and Wrexham v Walsall in the West Division of the League, both taking place on Wednesday.
