Jerry Yates gains praise from Academy boss...

Jerry Yates drew praise from coaches at both academy and senior level this week after his two goals at the weekend were followed up by a good performance against the first-team.

The striker, who has found the net once for the reserves this season in addition to his four goals in the Youth Alliance came up against Craig Morgan and Claude Davis on Monday morning after helping Garreth Barker’s side to a 4-1 success over Burton Albion at the weekend.

“Jerry (Yates) has got some very old-fashioned qualities,” Barker told www.themillers.co.uk. “I saw him play away at Grimsby and he encouraged a very young team in that match. He puts himself about, he’s not afraid of the physical aspect either, and above all that he’s good technically, has good feet and can finish on the floor or in the air. He’s come out of his shell a lot recently too. At the end of the session Paul (Raynor) took time out to praise the players for their input in the training ground game and we appreciate that.”

Yates wasn’t the only one who stood out in the youth team this week with Barker having particular praise for the minutes put in by defender Max Hallatt.

“Max played on Saturday for 90 minutes, then played on Sunday to help us out in the Under 16s and subsequently played another 90 minutes on Monday in the training ground game. Needless to say he welcomed his day off when it came around on Tuesday.”
