Gaffer praises 'friends' Morgan and Arnason...

Rotherham United Manager Steve Evans was full of praise for his defensive duo, after the Millers withstood pressure late on to secure three points against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

Kari Arnason and Craig Morgan has been the defensive partnership of choice for the Millers boss for the majority this season, and the Gaffer was quick to praise their efforts as they saw off a late charge in Lancashire.

“I gave Arnie and Morgs some special praise, and as crazy as it sounds it was for that last 10 minutes especially and the added time,” Evans told Millers Player. “We knew the pressure we’d have to withstand in stoppage time when we’d got the lead but they put their heads on everything, got a couple of blocks in and I was really pleased for them guys. The numerous times we’ve worked with them this season, they’ve been very good, although there’s been a couple of lapses. But I’m the first to give them the praise they deserve and they were the best of League One and all but a sloppy goal at Blackpool then we’re defending really well.”

It was the 17th time that duo have been partnered together from the start in the Sky Bet Championship this year, and the Millers boss has been pleased with how they’ve reacted to sitting out of the preferred starting 11.

“They’ve got good character,” Evans added. “We’ve left Craig out when we brought Broady (Kirk Broadfoot) in, but when he got injured he came back and did well. We asked Arnie to sit out after he had that poor game against Birmingham. They’re more than just players for Rotherham United and Steve Evans, they’re friends now, but as the manager I have to tell them good and bad.”
