Rotherham United’s Academy recorded an impressive 1-0 victory over Notts County.

Mason Warren earned the Millers an important victory after a stunning free-kick whilst the Millers had Peter Denton to thank for the first league victory of the campaign after he saved a penalty late on.

“It was a hard fought victory against a good team in Notts County,” said Academy Manager Garreth Barker.

“They (Notts County) are a very well organised and physical side, and the last time we played them they beat us convincingly so I was impressed with the performance and result.

“We made a conscious decision to change the shape after we conceded six at Hartlepool, and also changed an approach slightly which paid off.

“It was astute thinking by Mason Warren at the free-kick. Mason has worked out that there was a gap at the end of the wall, and he has bent it into the net left-footed, it was a terrific finish.”

Rotherham: Denton; Gibson (Potts 72), Hallatt, Peace-McDonald, Shelley, Norfolk (Johnson 65), Fenton, Wiles, Warren, Muskwe, Yates.
Unused: Fiddler, Wilson, Creamer.
