NCS Champion School receive Recognition

2 April 2014

Sponsored by

Aston Academy has teamed up with RUCST as a Champion School to promote National Citizen Service (NCS) to their Y11 and 12 students.

On what turned out to be a great night for Rotherham United FC, Aston Academy was presented with a signed shirt and a certificate of recognition by Tony Stewart and RUCST, during half time at the 3-0 victory over Brentford.

So far 17 young people from Aston Academy have signed up to the summer programme with more ready to do the same.

The NCS is a programme for Year 11 & 12 students (or equivalent age). It gives young people the chance to undertake exciting and challenging activities including archery, kayaking, rock climbing and ghyll scrambling. Participants will meet new people and learn new skills, whilst also having the opportunity to design a project that will help their community and above all, have fun!

Jamie Noble, Head of Community said: “It’s great to have Aston Academy on board as a Champion School along with Winterhill School and Wingfield Academy. The aim is to get every secondary school to join us an Ambassador School and to give them the same recognition by presenting them with a framed Rotherham United shirt signed by the players and a certificate from the NCS Trust as a thank you.”

Kirsty Richardson, NCS Coordinator said: “For a school to take on the ethos of NCS is great, it provides the opportunity for them to help their students better themselves even further. As the coordinator I get to see first-hand the impact NCS has on young people’s lives whether it be personally or academically and it’s fantastic to see them enjoying themselves.”
