Rotherham United Reserves lost their unbeaten start to the season after a 2-1 defeat at Mansfield Town.
Paul Raynor took charge of the second string and included two trialists in his line-up. Former Notts County and Carlisle forward Francois Zoko started on the right, whilst ex-Charlton winger Salim Kerkar started on the left.
The Millers got off to a disastrous start when after only a minute Colin Daniel whipped in a cross from the left, and Jake Speight bundled the ball beyond Adam Collin at the back post.
Trialist Zoko had a glimpse of goal on nine minutes when after his initial cross was blocked, the ball rebounded to him but he drilled his shot wide of the near post.
On 27 minutes Danny Hylton forced the Mansfield defence into a mistake but when the ball settled down his fierce drive was palmed wide by the advancing Liam Mitchell.
Moments later Kerkar shot from the left-side of the penalty area which Mitchell parried to the feet of Hylton, but he struck the bar from close range six yards out.
Mansfield responded with Lindon Meikle stinging the palms of Adam Collin with a 20 yard daisy cutter.
The Millers good work in the first-half was finally rewarded in the 35th minute. After a foul on Kerkar, Michael Tidser curled in a free-kick and which found Zoko who volleyed beyond Mitchell from eight yards out.
After the break it was the home side that had the first chance. A hopeful ball forward split the Millers centre halves allowing Speight a clean run on goal, but Collin raced out of his goal to make a smart save.
Trialist Kerkar nearly had his trial cut short after being scythed down by Liam Marsden who received a deserved yellow card.
On 73 minutes Zoko showed another good touch when after a smart turn he threaded a pass through to Matt Tubbs whose shot was blocked by Mitchell.
Then in the last minute of injury time the Millers failed to clear a corner and Calvin Andrew pounced to smash the ball beyond Collin.
