Young Millers eventually overpowered...

A young Rotherham United side put up a valiant fight at Grange Lane, before eventually succumbing to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Hull City.

Nick Proschwitz, a £2.6million striker signed from SC Paderborn last summer netted all four goals for the Premier League Tigers who were being held 0-0 at the break.

Nicky Walker was the only player in a grey shirt with first team experience to his name, in a very young Millers side which saw little of the ball but held out against the multi-million attack of Hull.

In the end, Proschwitz was the difference, opening the scoring early in the second period when Sam Topliss crossed and he guided a header beyond Tony Thompson in the Millers’ goal.

It was the same story that he sealed his hat-trick with later in the game as Topliss put in yet another excellent cross which the big striker finished from close range. Between the two goals set up by Topliss, the big German turned his man in the box and slotted into the corner of the net with a very tidy finish.

The Millers showed some endeavour but it was to no avail as the big man saved his best until last, taking aim from outside the area and rifled home beyond Thompson.
