Rotherham United’s victory over Sheffield United proved to be a day for breaking records.

Not only did the attendance of 11,758 surpass the record New York Stadium attendance, but the 649 (5.5% of the overall attendance) covers in the hospitality lounges also surpassed the previous record.

“The hospitality lounges have never looked so full, and after what proved to be a terrific performance and result I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many happy Millers fans,” beamed Head of Commercial Mark Hitchens.

“We knew that the Sheffield United fixture would prove hugely popular, but it surpassed our expectations, breaking all records for covers in the process.

“The feedback since we moved into New York Stadium has been fantastic, and now we are in League One the popularity has soared through the roof. I would like to thank the businesses and clients who have shown their support by trying the New York hospitality experience, and if you haven’t tried there is no better time to get on board.”

In addition to the record breaking numbers, the victory prompted the Millers first league victory over Sheffield United since 1981, and it is the first time since the 1951-1952 season that the Millers have done the Sheffield double, beating Wednesday and United.
