Millers welcome back Barnsley in July...
Rotherham United are pleased to announce that Barnsley will become the first side returning side for a pre-season friendly, when the two sides face-off on Saturday 27th July. It will be the Millers’ final home friendly prior to their League One campaign kicking-off a week later. The Reds visited New York Stadium for the history-making inaugural game at the Millers' new home last summer in front of a restricted 50% capacity crowd. However, with the stadium set for its one-year anniversary, David Flitcroft’s side will return ahead of their Championship campaign.
Jacob Mellis became the first goalscorer at the stadium when he struck home from the edge of the box, but a quick reply from David Noble, and a debut goal from Kayode Odejayi ensured the Millers were victorious last time out.
Millers boss Steve Evans is looking forward to the fixture, and to welcoming back Flitcroft’s men.
“Our pre-season programme is beginning to take some real shape about it, and it’s always great to be involved in a local derby that gets people ready for the new season,” said the manager.
“David Flitcroft and Micky Mellon have done a wonderful job at Barnsley and we look forward to welcoming them to New York Stadium in July as both teams prepare for the new campaign.”
