Deadline Day capture speaks to www.themillers.co.uk

Rotherham United have signed Bury defender Joe Skarz on an emergency loan deal.

The left-back signed on the dotted line at club headquarters late this afternoon, just before the 5pm emergency loan deadline.

Skarz, 23, has been a regular for Bury in League One this season, playing 45 times in all competitions, scoring three times.

The former Huddersfield Town defender revealed to www.themillers.co.uk how the move came about.

“The first thing I heard about it was yesterday afternoon. I’m delighted to be here first and foremost and looking forward to getting the team promoted,” he said.

“When I got the call about the interest from Rotherham I immediately thought I wanted to come here. If you look at the new stadium and fanbase, it’s geared up for a higher division and I wanted to be involved in that.

“The club should be in a higher league. I’ve spoken to the manager and that is obviously where he wants to be and when you look at the quality of the squad on paper, it shouldn’t really be in this league."

Skarz hopes his experience of getting promoted from League Two with the Shakers will help the Millers over the remaining eight fixtures, starting with AFC Wimbledon tomorrow afternoon.

“I’m only 23, but two years ago I got promoted with Bury so hopefully the experience I gained from that season will stand us in good stead,” he said.

“I’m eligible to play tomorrow but obviously I’m still not sure if I will be involved from the start or whatever, but if I’m just involved I’ll be pleased to experience the atmosphere at the New York Stadium for the first time.

“As a footballer you want to play in front of big crowds in pressure games. There’s no better pressure than playing at the top and fighting for promotion. I think the lads here will embrace it, so hopefully we can start off with a win tomorrow.”
