During the May half term RUCST ran the first ever Girls Only Football Camp funded by The Co-operative Membership Community Fund.
The camp took place at Outokumpu Training Ground, Brinsworth. 30 girls attended and really enjoyed it despite bad weather. The girls took part in a range of drills and skills to build their knowledge of the game.
There was a visit from Rotherham Ladies FC captain, Kirsty Richardson where the girls got the opportunity to ask questions about her background.
On the last day there was a world cup tournament where the participants put their skills into practice. Each child left with a prize.
Girls coordinator, Mark Kirby who led the camp said “For the first experience of a girls only camp it was great to see so many girls attending.
“Following the success of the camp, I am hoping to arrange more summer camps as well as after school clubs in the near future.”
Sports Development officer James Rawlinson said “After a successful girls camp working alongside The Co-operative Membership Community Fund, we are hoping this is the start of something new and that we can develop our work with girls further.”
