Fit for Football Hits Maltby

14 June 2013

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust ran Fit for Football sessions for 10-12 year olds at Maltby Linx Young People’s Centre during the May half term.

The sessions included multi-sports activities and health workshops which helped to increase awareness of the affects on your body from alcohol, smoking and poor diet.

Fit for Football sessions are part of a project called Teenage Kicks and are funded through Children in Need.

Fit for football is a five hour programme aimed to encourage children to do more physical activity, not to smoke and to eat healthier. The programme is targeted at children in Year 6, aged 10 and 11 and gives them the opportunity to try-out new sports, make healthy snacks and participate in activities that raise awareness of the harm caused when they live an unhealthy life.

Health Officer Alex Wilson said “It was great to see the young people of Malty gaining knowledge and understanding on important health topics.”

New Fit for Football sessions started on Tuesday 4th June, 6.30pm-8.30pm for young people aged 12-18 at Maltby Linx. Anyone is welcome to take part in the sessions.
