Fitness coach happy with summer discipline...

Fitness coach Paul Warne has praised the Millers squad ahead of the new season, after seeing some positive signs from the early pre-season fitness tests.

Before the players began their holidays over the summer, Warne handed each one a fitness programme, and it appears to have paid off with the former Millers striker happy with the results he’s seen so far.

“They get tested on the first day, and they’ve all come back at their weights, or under in some cases because they panic,” said Warne. “They’ve run really well and now it’s just about getting them game time and more time with the ball. Their base fitness is where we want it to be, but we’ll tidy it up this week and if we can get through it injury free then we can start getting conditioned for the season.”
Playing on his own lengthy career, pre-season is nothing new for Warne who is used to seeing some players trailing at the back, but even those are impressing the man who enjoyed his testimonial in the summer break.

“In every team you have a fourth group with the running who we normally have to whip Indiana Jones style, but even they’re good this year so I’m really pleased. It will just take a few games to transfer onto the pitch. We had the game last night (against Greenock Morton), and they’ve been training longer than us and had a few more games but I think we did well, and had things gone another way we’d have had a few goals, but that sharpness will come.”
