Ian Sharps has joined Burton Albion on loan...

Ian Sharps has signed for Burton Albion on loan until the end of the season, with a view to discussing a permanent transfer.

Sharps, 32, has played 27 times in all competitions this season for the Millers but has found himself out of the side in recent weeks due to the form of Kari Arnason and Johnny Mullins.

“Burton have asked the question on a couple of occasions, added to the fact that Craig Morgan will return to action shortly it made sense for me to sanction the loan move,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“Ian has been a model professional and an excellent captain for me this season; he is a man I have the utmost respect for. However, this deal offers him the opportunity to play football week in, week out something that Ian is very demanding about. I have just had an excellent conversation with him and the mutual respect between both of us was very evident.”

Evans continued:

“I am sure Ian will do great job at a good club in Burton Albion and we wish him well for the rest of the season and possibly beyond, but those conversations now continue with Ian and Gary Rowett.

“As we sit today I am also positive that we will add to the squad for what is a key area in the team, and taking everything into consideration this would also allow me to play Kari Arnason in what I consider his best position, central midfield.”

Manager Steve Evans would not be drawn on his next target saying:

“It would be fair to say we are in discussions with two specific player targets, I will not be playing the speculation game, I will only deal with the facts in what is a key time in the January transfer window for the Millers.”

Evans also confirmed that Johnny Mullins has accepted the position of captain and will take on the responsibility with immediate effect.
