The Girls Under 13 side from Wickersley School and Sports College attended the Rotherham United home game against Barnet. The girls were invited to the game having won the Rotherham United Community Sports Trust’s local NPower Girls Cup, beating Rawmarsh in the final.

The girls will now go on to represent The Millers at the regional finals on the 15th January in Nottingham, and will compete against other sides from our region for the opportunity to represent Rotherham United at Wembley on the 7th April. The girls will be facing sides from Leicester City, Chesterfield, Nott’s County and Nottingham Forest in the group stages and could face either of the Sheffield clubs or Doncaster Rovers in the Semi-Finals should they progress.

James Cole Participation Officer commented; “The standard of football at our local tournament was really high and the girls have done well to win the opportunity to represent the club at the later stages. I’m expecting some really good games when we travel to Nottingham for the next stage and we’ll have everything crossed that the girls can progress to the next stage, and you never know there might be a visit to Wembley for the team, which would be a fantastic achievement”.

The girls received their trophy prior to Kick Off and for some of them it was the first time that they had visited the stadium, and despite the result, the girls enjoyed their afternoon and will hopefully be back again soon, should they be successful in the next stage of the competition.
