Rotherham United sign Posh winger on loan...

Rotherham United have captured the signing of Peterborough United winger Daniel Kearns on a loan deal until the end of the season, subject to Football League ratification.

Kearns, 21, has played 12 games for York City this season on loan, and featured as a late substitute for parent club Peterborough United in their victory over Barnsley on New Year’s Day.

However, manager Steve Evans has now guaranteed the signing of the Irishman who began his career with West Ham United.

“As a manager, I’m delighted that after a number of attempts I have secured the signature of young Daniel Kearns to join the Millers initially on loan until the end of the season, with a view to making it a permanent transfer in the summer,” said Evans.

“Back in 2011 I tried to convince the boy to sign for my previous club, but at that time he decided to sign for Peterborough United. He has developed under Darren Ferguson and the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international is a real capture for us. Sadly, I am not at liberty to reveal the League One and League Two clubs who have sought his signature in the last two weeks.”

The winger is likely to join his team mates on Thursday, and will be available for the game against Edgar Davids’ Barnet this Saturday.

“Daniel will train with the squad tomorrow and will make his debut for the Millers at some stage on Saturday when an in-form Barnet are the visitors to New York Stadium,” added Evans.

“Our supporters will enjoy watching this young man; his ability to take on defenders and deliver a telling pass will become obvious to all. I would like to place on record my thanks to Darren Ferguson for the very positive comments he gave about myself and the club to young Daniel.”
