Lionel Ainsworth has joined Aldershot Town on a two-month emergency loan deal.

The winger who has just come back to full fitness following a shoulder problem, has been allowed to join the Shots in order to get some first-team football.

The deal includes a recall clause after 28 days and the Millers have given Aldershot permission to play the former Shrewsbury wide man in the FA Cup.

“Lionel has gone to get some first-team competitive action and that really is the sole reason why I have sanctioned the loan deal, he certainly has a future with the Millers,” Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk

“The lad is now desperate to be playing and I have listened to his request for that to happen.”

Ainsworth has been on the sidelines since the back end of October after sustaining a shoulder injury in the warm-up before the Millers home game with Plymouth Argyle. He is now back in full training and took part in a behind closed doors friendly with Sheffield Wednesday recently.

“The lad has now played a number of reserve games and is more than ready for first-team action,” added Evans.

“I trust his time at Aldershot will give him that and he will return here at what will be a critical time in the season.

“Dean Holdsworth tells me he will go into their squad for their match with Northampton Town tomorrow night, and of course he is available for them in the FA Cup should the manager wish him to be involved.”
