Manager proud after dramatic finish...
Rotherham United manager Steve Evans expressed his delight after seeing his team come from behind to beat Rochdale 2-1 at Spotland.
Ashley Grimes put the home side ahead in the first-half, but late goals from Kayode Odejayi and Courtney Cameron sealed the three points for the Millers to give the large travelling support plenty of Christmas cheer.
“It has come in the last minute but I think we were very unfortunate to go behind in the first place,” said Evans. “We hit the woodwork a couple of times and had one cleared off the line. Our changes had an effect which was good but credit to the lads. We don’t kid ourselves, this is a tough place to come, and this is a team who hammered Bradford so it was a thoroughly deserved three points.
The Millers’ hero from the weekend Daniel Nardiello didn’t make the bench and as a result Steve Evans was able to name just six substitutes for the clash.
“We travelled up to Rochdale nice and early to a hotel for a pre-match meal and Denis Circuit told me that Daniel was suffering with a bit of a virus. Progressively as the morning went on he became a sight for sore eyes so we had his family pick him up from the hotel and it’s a shame because he’d have played today.”
