Young side slip to defeat...

Rotherham United suffered a second successive 4-2 defeat as an inexperienced side were beaten at Lincoln City.

Jerry Yates volleyed home a Mason Warren cross to add to his goal for the reserves earlier in the week and Michael Williamson netted his eighth of the season, but it wasn’t to be for Garreth Barker’s men who included a number of new faces.

“It was a mixed team that included some 15 year-old schoolboys and some trialists,” Barker said. “Some of the boys were sent home for the weekend due to illness, we rested a couple of key players who have played every minute of every game and there is a misconception of people at this age that they can play all the time, but they need that physical and emotional break to spend time with their families. It also gave us an opportunity to take a look at some other players performing at this level. The other bonus is that nobody got injured as we don’t have a big squad like some of the Category one or two Academies.”

After facing Leicester City on Wednesday night in the FA Youth Cup, the Millers return to Youth Alliance action on the 11th January for a home game against Scunthorpe United.
