Rotherham united community sports trust will again be running a project in partnership with heart research UK

Rotherham united community sports trust will again be running a project in partnership with heart research UK. This will be the 2nd project we are running after the previous success we had participants who have a disability losing weight, gaining knowledge on healthier lifestyles, introduced to new physical activities as well as meeting new friends along the way.

At the beginning of the project we will fitness test and record weight, blood pressure and BMI so we can see the improvements. With committed participants we can monitor, advise and recommend interventions over the weeks to ensure success.

We will be starting the project up again in January, with 2 sessions a week. The first session will include half an hour theory based learning about healthy lifestyles then we will set off on walks around Rotherham. Combined with the walking, the participants will in the gym to help set their set targets.

The 2nd session will be half an hour theory based then a multi skills session which will include team  games, individual  exercises, personalised goals and circuit training.

Sean Graves, Disability Officer said " the work we do it to make our participants healthier thus reducing the stress and strain on the heart. It is really important to look after such an important organ and even an hour's exercise makes a massive difference."

Jamie Noble, Head of Community "the support we have had form Heart Research UK and particularly Katharine Greathead has been tremendous. The pilot project we took part in was so successful, that Heart Research wanted to re-commission us to run a second group. We are hoping to have the same success we found in year 1 using some new methods our coaches have learnt on their recent Personal Training qualifications."

If this is something that interest you and you have a disability and would like to have a new start in 2014 come get involved by contacting disability coordinator Sean Graves on 07733410510 0r sgraves@rotherhamunited.net
