Scunthorpe 0 v 0 Rotherham - Report

20 August 2013

The Millers continue their unbeaten start...

Rotherham United Reserves continued their unbeaten start to the Central League season after a goalless draw against Scunthorpe United.

The Millers selected a strong side for the trip to Glanford Park with striker Matt Tubbs and midfielder David Worrall both selected, despite playing significant roles in the weekend victory over Crawley Town.

Striker Daniel Nardiello was expected to play a part after returning to the subs bench at Crawley, but following the birth of his daughter he dropped out of the squad.

On 18 minutes Tubbs found himself in the thick of the action when clearance by ‘keeper James Severn eventually fell to him on the edge of the box, but his effort was blocked after a challenge by Luke Waterfall.

Midway through the first-half Adam Collin was called into action when Etienne Esajas, who just previously had an early sighter, stung the palms of the Millers stopper. Then from the resulting corner Wootton’s header was also kept out by Collin.

After Tubbs’ run on goal was stalled by the offside flag, strike partner Danny Hylton went close with a header soon after.

Just before the break Michael Tidser drilled a shot goalwards from distance but Severn was equal to the task making a smart save.

It was a quieter second half in terms of goalmouth action but sub Nicky Walker thought he’d put the Millers in front on 65 minutes, but after connecting well with Hylton’s pull back, his shot was blocked by a brilliant challenge by Waterfall.

Walker went close again late on but he smashed the ball just over from a good position.
