Millers boss pleased with victory...

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans was elated with his side’s performance after seeing them dominate promotion-rivals Exeter City at New York Stadium.

The Millers were ahead within a minute through Ben Pringle’s strike, and never looked back, going in at half-time 3-0 ahead. Daniel Nardiello and Man of the Match Michael O’Connor added the other two before the break.

“I thought it was terrific for an hour,” Evans told Millers Player. “I thought afterwards the experienced lads preserved a bit of energy, and quite rightly in my opinion. I know we’ll look at goal difference and want to go and win by five or six, but to be fair to Exeter they changed their team around which left gaps at the back as they took a gamble. We would have settled for 10-9 as long as we win the game, and it was a really reaction for the boys.”

It was a more subdued second-half performance for Evans’ men and the goals dried up, but for a close-range volley from Craig Morgan. However, the Millers boss was pleased with the display and the professionalism they showed in securing all three points.

It was a good display of football, the effort, the tenacity and work rate were there and we got the fourth with Craig’s great volley and then went through the motions a little bit. But they saw it out and they’ve deserved their day off tomorrow. We’ve had some special performances but it was in line with Chesterfield, Northampton and Bradford. They’re all good teams and so were Exeter. Paul Tisdale is a good manager who will be hurting, as I do after a defeat, but we wish them every success for the rest of the season.
