Sitwell claimed the 2012/2013 Broadsword Trophy after outlasting Redscope on penalties during the Millers’ game against Fleetwood.

After both teams fought off their previous competition with classy performances, the final match-up between the two sides was sure to be a tight affair. And the half-time crowd weren’t disappointed.

After an end-to-end game, with both Sitwell and Redscope having chances to take the lead late on, it came down to a penalty shoot-out to decide the Broadsword Trophy victor. And after Redscope missed their first spot-kick, Sitwell made them pay by putting three unstoppable penalties past the Redscope ‘keeper to place themselves in Broadsword winners’ history.

Sports Development Officer James Rawlinson: “We’ve had great performances from all the School teams since the Broadsword Trophy started this season. I’d like to congratulate Sitwell School on winning the trophy and a massive well done to everyone that took part.

“We have seen some good fixtures throughout the year but Sitwell and Redscope really saved the best until last. The two teams battled so hard to get to that position in that final. However, it was a shame that it had to go to penalties but unfortunately one team had to win. Overall it has been a great year for the Broadsword Trophy and we are all looking forward to next season.”
