Steve Evans post Gillingham...

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans was left disappointed at his side’s narrow 1-0 defeat to league leaders Gillingham, after seeing the Millers enjoy the lion’s share of possession. Deon Burton’s first-half strike was the difference between the two promotion-chasers.

“Anybody who has watched the game and doesn’t think we deserve more is telling lies aren’t they?” said Evans. “They started better than us, they were in command, and we had a number of key players who didn’t make it happen, not through lack of effort but it just wasn’t their day. After that it was one-way traffic and their goalkeeper made a world-class save.”

Lee Frecklington missed the game through illness, meaning Lionel Ainsworth got a start, and the Millers boss explained that it was a late decision to leave out the midfielder.

“He’s on the team coach ill at the moment with gastro-enteritis at the moment. He had his pre-match meal and a walk and felt great but we got to the ground and Denis Circuit told me we’d got a problem. It was so severe that we named him as a sub but the lad’s on the bench and he’s struggling.”
