FOOTBALL fever is coming to a South Yorkshire racecourse this week, after two of the region’s clubs secured promotion on Saturday.

Bosses at Doncaster Racecourse have announced that supporters of Doncaster Rovers and Rotherham United can gain free access to the races on Saturday, May 4, to mark their team’s respective promotions, with both sides having claimed three points in their crucial weekend matches.

Fans have to pre-register for free admission online and present either their season ticket or a ticket stub from the 12/13 season to attend the May 4 race evening at no charge for themselves and up to three other guests.  Doncaster fans need to fill out an online form at www.surveymonkey.com/s/DRFCRACES and Rotherham fans can access a similar form at www.surveymonkey.com/s/RUFCRACES.

Mark Spincer, managing director at Doncaster Racecourse, said that he was keen to engage with sporting fans, and help them to celebrate their team’s success with a great day out at the races.

He said: “Saturday’s result was absolutely fantastic and one that has created such a buzz in Doncaster, Rotherham and the wider region.  We’re keen to create an opportunity for fans to celebrate in style and enjoy a fantastic day with us at Doncaster Racecourse - Saturday will be just that.

“As a sport and leisure business, we are always delighted to see other sports institutions in the area doing well, so we’re delighted to give football fans an opportunity to mark what was a really fantastic result, with a great offer that will bring together both Rotherham and Doncaster supporters for a big celebration.”

Fans will have the chance to upgrade to the Grandstand enclosure for a charge if they pre-register, and adults can bring up to three children at no charge.

The race evening will feature seven races, and will be followed by entertainment after racing, with the band is Superfuzz taking to the stage.  The band will perform a range of songs, including music from The Beatles, The Kinks, The Killers and the Kings of Leon.

Gates open at 3pm but for more information about the race evening, visit www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk or call 01302 511 915.
