ROTHERHAM UNITED CALLS ON SCHOOLS TO SIGN UP FOR THE NPOWER FOOTBALL LEAGUE GIRLS CUP
As the new season starts gaining momentum, the coaches, players and backroom staff at Rotherham United are working hard to provide a successful season for our fans.
We’ll be doing our very best this season, but we now need your help to try and bring the prestigious npower Football League Girls Cup trophy back to the New York Stadium. Last year over 2,000 schools entered the competition, with the finalists getting the chance to play at Wembley Stadium.
The road to Wembley starts in November when our club will organise local competitions for all local schools who wish to take part. The Girls Cup is for under 13 girls and the winning school will win the right to represent us in the national stages of the tournament and could progress all the way to the final for the prize of a lifetime – playing football at Wembley stadium.
Andy Warrington the Community Sports Trust’s Participation Ambassador commented, “I’ve been lucky enough to play and it really is the most amazing experience knowing that you are playing on a field that has seen some of football’s finest moments”
James Cole Participation Officer added “That is what makes it so special and you know that you’ve achieved something really amazing just to get there. Some of the greatest players of all time have played at Wembley Stadium and now pupils from Rotherham schools have the chance to join that list!”
Last season, the girls from Aston Academy did a great job representing Rotherham United but we know there are loads of great school teams in our area and many of you will want the chance to show off your skills at the home of football.
So what are you waiting for? Last year’s finalists had a special coaching visit from Faye White, got to play in front of a massive crowd before the play-off finals and had their whole town behind them!
So get your school involved and know that if you end up representing Rotherham United, everyone at the club will be right behind you!
