Gaffer disappointed with defensive showing...
Rotherham United boss Steve Evans said that the performance from the Millers today is as bad as he’s seen whilst in charge of the Millers, as his side were beaten 6-2 by Port Vale.
“I think the first half hour is as bad as we’ve been defensively,” said Evans. “They go four up and I think our back four and two central midfield players looked all over the place to be honest. We lacked a discipline to mark people, a discipline to match runners and there’s absolutely no excuse as it was embarrassing for 30 minutes. There could have been more damage done by half time and we managed to get back in it at 4-1. We spoke about winning the second half, and at 4-2 there’s only one team in it and if we’d got the next goal there could have been a turnaround of monstrous proportions.”
The Millers boss, whose side suffered their second defeat of the season did see some positives in the second half, despite another two goals being conceded.
“I’m not a manager to blame my players but as we’ve just spoke about in there it was wholly unacceptable. I must admit, apart from the two goals that Vale get we’ve been the better side in the second half, and you sound strange trying to say you’ve been the better side at any time when you’ve lost 6-2. I’ve told the players we’ll come in tomorrow, sit and watch the game and work hard for next Saturday,” added Evans.
