Assistant manager rues defensive lapses...

Rotherham United’s Assistant Manager Paul Raynor was left ruing defensive mistakes that saw his team throw away a second half lead and surrender their unbeaten start in the league at New York Stadium.

The Millers, who went behind just before the break, managed to overturn the deficit only to see the visitors Rochdale, score two further goals, including a penalty, and take all three points back to Lancashire.

. “You can’t give the ball away on the edge of the box like that, and you can’t dive in inside the penalty area. You do that and you pay the price. You don’t need to help these teams because they’re good enough without handing it to them.”Millers Player“It was suicidal defending,” Raynore exclusively told

The Millers’ first half performance saw them fail to create any clear cut chances, and were punished just before the break when veteran striker Dele Adebola picked up Phil Edwards’ pass after possession had been given away in the midfield, and slotted home past Scott Shearer.

“It was not good enough first half. We rattled a few cages at half time because we just weren’t at the races in the first half; we sat in, we lacked energy, and lacked everything to be honest. We didn’t move the ball quick enough, didn’t take the game to Rochdale and were disappointing.”
