Taylor goal seals a point...

Rotherham United Reserves earned a battling draw against Walsall at the Banks’s Stadium this afternoon.

The Millers lead through a Jason Taylor strike but were pegged back just before the interval after a goal from Febian Brandy.

The Millers fielded a strong side for the Central League fixture including the likes of Michael O’Connor, Kayode Odejayi and Gareth Evans. There was also a return to action again for Laurence Wilson as he continued his rehabilitation from injury.

The home side had the first chance of the game as Jake Heath exchanged passes with George Bowerman whose effort was pushed away by Tony Thompson.

Gareth Evans went close early doors for the Millers but his curling effort was pushed aside by Saddlers ‘keeper David Grof. On 21 minutes the Millers went close again with Taylor smashing an effort against the post after Walsall failed to clear a corner.

The Millers hard work was then rewarded on 33 minutes when Taylor drilled a shot from distance beyond Grof for a well-taken goal.

Walsall equalised just before the interval when Brandy headed home a left-wing cross beyond Thompson.

O’Connor went close at the start of the second half when his fierce drive was palmed away by Grof. Then Kieran Agard went close after a surging run and David Noble also had a free-kick tipped over by Grof.

Aaron Williams had Walsall’s best chance of the half but he fired over from just inside the area.
