Boss Steve Evans talks to www.themillers.co.uk...
Daniel Nardiello shined as Rotherham United ran out 4-2 winners this afternoon after a behind closed doors friendly reserve outing at Peterborough United. Both Darren Ferguson and Steve Evans fielded strong sides for the game at London Road, which was competitive throughout the 90 minutes, with Nardiello in particular coming in for praise.
“It was a worthwhile experience with a number of players getting the match action that we intended for them,” boss Steve Evans told www.themillers.co.uk
“It was also important to see the likes of Daniel Nardiello, David Noble and Laurie Wilson all come through unscathed.”
The hosts took an early lead which was cancelled out by a Mark Bradley header mid-way through the first-half. The Millers then took the lead at the start of the second period through an own goal, after excellent build-up play by David Noble who provided the telling cross. It was soon 3-1 when youngster Nicky Walker turned on the edge of the area before firing in, with notable work from Nardiello prior to the goal.
The Millers were now totally rampant and added a fourth when Kieran Agard tapped in from close range after some excellent interplay. Posh pulled a goal back late on but it was a good afternoon for the Millers.
“It was also good to see Nicky Walker score with a great strike against a Championship club that had a vast number of experienced professionals in their side,” added Evans.
“No doubt it will prove to be a worthwhile exercise for Darren Ferguson and his team as well as ourselves.”
