Defender joins on loan...

Rotherham United have further strengthened their backline after signing Jack O’Connell on a youth loan from Blackburn Rovers.

O’Connell joins the Millers to provide cover following the injury to Craig Morgan, and will join up with the squad ahead of the game with Exeter City this weekend.

The 18-year-old is boss Steve Evans’ second signing of the day following the arrival of Huddersfield’s Liam Ridehalgh on emergency loan this morning.

An England under 19 international, O’Connell is the second youngster to sign for the Millers from the Lancashire club this season, following the successful loan of left-back Josh Morris.

The youngster is highly thought of at Rovers, who have built a strong reputation in recent seasons of producing highly-rated defenders following the emergence of Phil Jones, Grant Hanley and Jason Lowe.

Capped three times at under 19 level, he is a versatile performer who can operate at centre-half and left-back. He recently signed professional forms with Rovers.
