Gaffer disappointed following Millers' cup exit

Rotherham United boss Steve Evans was left frustrated at his side’s exit from the Capital One Cup after seeing them on top for much of the match.

The Millers, who held Championship side Hull City to a 1-1 draw in the first round tie, eventually succumbed to a penalty shootout defeat after Mark Bradley saw his shot rebound off the crossbar and Evans believes his side almost did enough to win it in normal time.

“We deserved to win the cup tie. I think the referee had a poor game, but he’s not the excuse because we’ve played very well against a good Championship side, and I think they’ll feel a little fortunate to have gone through today.”

The Millers lost left-back Laurence Wilson early in the game, but Evans is sure there will be a suitable player beginning the game in that position when Burton arrive at New York Stadium for the opening league game next week.

“Wilson got a knock on his ankle and it was swelling up so we had to change it around. If the question is are we going to have a suitable left-back in the side next week for the Burton game, then the answer is undoubtedly be yes. If Laurence is a problem in the week we’ll assess that and then act on it.”
