REPORT | Huddersfield Town 3 v 1 Academy

24 February 2020

Rotherham United’s youngsters were defeated 3-1 in their most recent Youth Alliance League outing as West met South Yorkshire at Huddersfield Town.

Ciaran McGuckin was the man on target for the Millers on the stroke of half time but it was the Terriers who prevailed on home soil, to inflict a rare defeat on Ciaran Toner’s side, who remain third in the North East division of the U18 league.

Injuries have been cruel to the Academy youngsters in recent weeks with the first bad news coming in the form of Jacob Gratton’s ACL injury, before Jerome Greaves was stretchered off from last week’s reserve game at Walsall meaning he missed out on the game in Huddersfield.

Greaves’ omission did however, present McGuckin with another opportunity in attack and he took his chance netting in his teammate’s absence.

It was the hosts though who recorded maximum points, seeing off the challenge of a brave Rotherham United side to win the game 3-1.

Millers | Farrar; Hanley (Durose 27), Hull, Makwedza, Smith; Scott (Salah 78), Spence (Exton 85), Peel-Evans, Hodgkinson; McGuckin, Kenny.

Unused | Ellis, Millen.
