REPORT | Notts County 2 v 4 Reserves

16 October 2018

Rotherham United Reserves recorded a strong 4-2 Central League victory over Notts County at Ilkeston Town’s New Manor Ground.

Goals from Anthony Forde, Mitchell Carlton, Jacques Etia and Ben Wiles secured a positive result for Matt Hamshaw’s side, despite going behind early in the contest.

The game also saw a return from injury for defender Clark Robertson, whilst there was game time for a host of other senior professionals.

It was the Magpies who made the brighter start, and they had the lead when Kristian Dennis latched onto a flick to steer the ball beyond Laurence Bilboe.

The Millers were quickly level when Forde curled a terrific free-kick over the wall from just outside the area to make it 1-1.

Rotherham took control of proceedings after the break with second-year scholar Mitchell Carlton putting the visitors in front when his low shot from just outside the area beat the ‘keeper.

Hamshaw’s side took a firm grip on proceedings when soon after substitute Etia stooped bravely to head in the third.

County worked their way back into the contest through a Remaye Campbell strike on 67 minutes, but the Millers sealed the victory with a fourth goal 12 minutes from time when Wiles spun neatly before slotting beyond the ‘keeper.

Rotherham: Bilboe; Southern-Cooper, Robertson, Onariase, Beeden; Forde, Carlton, Wiles, Bray; Kayode, Lewthwaite.
Subs: Weham, Hutchinson, Hull, Etia, Peel-Evans.
