REPORT | Grimsby 3 v 0 Reserves

24 April 2018

First team/development coach Matthew Hamshaw says he was disappointed with the Millers' performance, after Rotherham United Reserves were beaten 3-0 at Grimsby Town.

A young side with a smattering of experience were defeated at Blundell Park, with goals from Siriki Dembele, Ty-Rhys Paul-Jones and Rumarn Burrell enough to secure the Central League points for the hosts.

After the game Hamshaw explained his disappointment, whilst also stressing some positives, with midfielder Darren Potter getting another 80 minutes under his belt as he continues his recovery from injury.

“We were disappointed with the performance if we are honest,” Hamshaw told

“We are certainly not unhappy about the effort and level of commitment from the boys, but I felt that our end product needed to be better. At key times in the game we just lacked that bit of quality.

“It was a young side that we fielded and there were some positives that came with that. Playing at Blundell Park gave the youngsters the chance to experience a professional stadium and they will have benefitted greatly from that.

“There were also positives for the senior players. Darren Potter got through 80 minutes which was a real plus for us. It was also important that we got some game time into others, with Jerry Yates playing the full 90 and Ben Wiles also got some vital minutes under his belt.”
