Gillingham host Rotherham looking for their first back-to-back victories this season in what has been an up-and-down campaign thus far.

The Gills did record a welcome 1-0 victory over Accrington Stanley in their last encounter following a run of form that had seen them record one win in seven.

One thing former Millers boss Steve Evans can rely on is a strong home performance, shown by three wins in their last five at Priestfield including a 2-0 win against Rotherham’s last conquerors Wycombe.

In fact, the two games Gillingham lost at home in that spell were against top-of-the-table Ipswich and high-flying Peterborough United in matches they perhaps deserved more from.

Former Rotherham midfielder Ben Pringle could feature against his former club after recovering from a hamstring problem.

Lee Hodson has overcome a groin issue and will likely feature but central midfielder Matty Willock will is unlikely to play despite returning to training.

The Millers last action saw them beaten on home soil by early pace setters Wycombe as they ended up on the wrong side of a 1-0 scoreline.

In a game of few chances, clinical Wycombe took theirs with Scott Kashket scoring early on while Rotherham’s opportunities were limited throughout the afternoon by a resolute Wanderers’ rearguard.

The Millers’ form has coincided with a tricky run of fixtures against Play-off fighting opposition and has left Paul Warne’s side in 11^th, but within four points of the Play-offs.

However, with Warne’s men accumulating the second-highest amount of points on the road in the league, Rotherham will be confident of collecting three points and firing themselves up the table.

Adam Thompson has been training this week and could gain some minutes off the bench, but the away trip comes too soon for Clark Robertson who will likely be eased back into the first-team picture next week.

Record signing Freddie Ladapo was on the bench in the previous game and he may be given a run out to provide some ammunition following the Millers’ blank against Wycombe, but Shaun MacDonald may miss the clash due to illness.

One to watch: Jack Bonham

Goalkeeper Bonham has stood out this season after signing for the Gills from Brentford in the summer.

The 6ft 4in stopper has been out on loan the past couple of seasons at Carlisle and Bristol Rovers, where he kept 15 clean sheets, but hugely impressed and persuaded Gillingham to secure his signature in early June.

The 26-year-old has recorded an impressive four clean sheets this season, including notably a star performance in his last match versus Accrington Stanley.

The Watford Academy product is well-known for his solid shot-stopping which has led to heaps of praise from Gills fans and manager Steve Evans, who described his saves as “top class” against Accrington.

Whatever the scenario on Saturday, Rotherham will find it tough to beat Bonham in what promises to be a close game.

“It is against a team that are riding high on the back of their win against Accrington last week, so they will be full of confidence as well and we're expecting a difficult game.

“The table can change very quickly, and it is about putting a run together. We spoke after the game the other day about putting longer runs together, whether that is unbeaten or even back-to-back wins and if you look how tight the league is, it shows if you do that you can end up half a dozen places up the league.”
