Nick is an experienced defender who signed for the Millers in August 2008 as a replacement for Graham Coughlan. He started his career as a trainee with Manchester City and made 20 appearances in all competitions for City in just over four years at Maine Road. Nick was loaned out on a regular basis whilst at City and he played in a handful of games for Bournemouth and Notts County before moving permanently to Meadow Lane for £150,000 in November 2000. Nick became a regular for County and in a spell of just under four years he made 169 appearances, scoring 11 goals. In 2004 he signed for Doncaster on a free transfer and in a two year stint he played over 50 games but Nick moved on in 2006 to sign for Grimsby Town. He moved to Don Valley after a successful time at Blundell Park which saw Nick play in the 2008 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final but the Mariners were beaten on the day by MK Dons.
