Ryan has progressed through the Millers youth system and he made his senior debut as a substitute in December 2005 in a 1-0 defeat by Swindon but did not feature again until August 2006.
Ryan scored his first senior goal for Rotherham in a 2-0 victory over Shrewsbury and scored a wonder-goal against Rochdale in 2009.
He made slow start to last season and moved to Exeter City on loan, earning the man-of-the-match award in a Sky televised game.
He returned from St. James' Park full of confidence and impressed in the play-off semi-finals before netting twice in the defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge at Wembley.
