Brewers v Millers - Preview

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

Despite missing the chance to move up in the League Two table after a second successive 1-1 home draw, Rotherham United still find themselves in a positive position as they travel to The Pirelli Stadium in search of three very precious points.

With the promotion race hotting up the Millers find themselves five points adrift of the top three, however with several games in hand over their rivals their destiny is very much in their own hands and a win against an improving Burton Albion side would keep up the pressure and edge them that little bit closer.

The Millers will be without Gary Roberts, the midfielder who served his suspension against Shrewsbury Town in their last encounter, has failed to shrug off a shoulder injury. Dale Tonge (foot), Paul Warne (ankle) and Andy Liddell (achilles) remain sidelined. Otherwise boss Ronnie Moore will have a full strength squad to choose from.

After watching his team record a thrilling 4-3 away victory against Hereford United in their last outing Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido will also be expected to field the same team, however the acquisition this week of Remuald Boco has seen him strengthen his squad and the Benin international will be pushing for a starting berth.

With that latest win the Brewers ended a losing streak and will go into this home encounter with confidence. After a slow start to the season they currently lay in 11th position in League Two and are just two points away from claiming a play-off place. From their 16 matches on home soil so far they have had mixed fortunes having recorded 27 points with eight wins and three draws, however only one of their five defeats has come in 2010 and with a top seven finish in mind they will prove a tough test for their Yorkshire counterparts.

The Millers will arrive at the Pirelli stadium unbeaten in four matches and will be looking to build on their 2-1 win in their last game away from Don Valley. Although still occupying fifth in the league an automatic promotion spot is still a distinct possibility for Rotherham and wins in their games in hand could see them into the top three. They will fancy their chances at returning with all three points as they possess a decent away record, they are the only team outside the top three to have won eight matches on their travels this season.

When the two sides played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture back in December it was the first ever time they had met in any competition, therefore both will be especially keen to record their first win over their opponents.
