Millers v Daggers - Preview

Posted on: Tue 09 Feb 2010

After losing ground on the top three with the result against the league's basement club Rotherham United must pick themselves up and dust themselves down as they try to re-find their form in this re-arranged home encounter.

That defeat at the Darlington Arena was not only the Millers' second against the Quakers this season but also their second in succession, however despite dropping another place in League Two and falling behind in the automatic promotion chase a return to winning ways against struggling Dagenham & Redbridge would re-install some confidence in the squad and close the gap on the top three.

The Millers have no new injury or suspensions ahead of the game at Don Valley so with the exception of Paul Warne (ankle) and Andy Liddell (achilles) boss Ronnie Moore has a full strength squad to choose from. Moore made three changes in personnel and a change in formation for the match at Darlington, but he may opt for a different approach to this evenings game.

Visiting manager John Still will also have the rare luxury of a selection headache, his Daggers team have been in awful form of late and after seeing them suffer three league defeats in a row for the first time this season with the latest one being an unlucky 1-0 reverse to Northampton Town he will think carefully before choosing his starting 11.

Of 13 matches at Don Valley this season the Millers have notched up six wins and five draws, however from their last three appearances at home they have been beaten twice and will be desperate to record three precious points and prevent it from happening again.

The Daggers themselves have been in free-fall recently, infact at the time of the original fixture they were lying in fourth position in the league just two points behind their opponents and were in great form. Now they will arrive in South Yorkshire having dropped six places and fallen five points adrift of the play-offs following a run of five defeats in six matches. On the road this season they have a mixed record with three wins and five draws from 12 matches, however they have returned home empty handed on four occasions. They will be keen to stop the rot having not tasted success away from Victoria Road since November 14th when they beat Accrington Stanley 1-0.

There have only ever been four previous meetings between the two clubs as the Daggers only joined the Football League in 2007. The Millers are unbeaten in that time and in the 2007/08 campaign they achieved a league double winning 2-0 away and 2-1 in the return fixture. Last season both games ended 1-1 and with the next one coming up in just over a month both teams will look to get the upper hand.
