Shrewsbury Town 2 Rotherham United 1
After taking the lead early in the second half Rotherham United suffered an agonising defeat when they conceded the winning goal in extra time in the final of the Pontin's Holidays League Cup final at Shrewsbury Town.
The Millers fielded a team consisting entirely of junior players against a side who contained mainly senior professionals and they gave a good account of themselves.

They did the majority of the early attacking and in the fourth minute Simon Harrison drove a free kick over the bar after Lee Whittington had been brought down.
Then Marc Newsham glanced a header just wide and he then combined with Sam Duncum whose cross went just beyond Ryan Taylor.

Town's first effort on goal came on 29 minutes but Motterham's shot was too high before the Millers won a corner two minutes later.

Liam King had a shot saved and as the ball bounced loose, Whittington's follow up effort was blocked. On 34 minutes the Millers almost took the lead when Duncum raced clear and he was brought down on the 18 yards line just as he was about to score. The defender Annan was sent off for his tackle but the free kick saw Duncum's effort blocked.

Five minutes before the interval Jonathan Hedge pulled off a brilliant save to turn a shot from Hughes round the post and at the start of the second half Town made two changes.
But it was the Millers who took a 54th minute lead when Simon Harrison lashed a 25 yarder into the top corner of the net with the aid of a deflection.

However, within a minute Town were level again when a shot was blocked in a crowded penalty area and when Andrews drove in another effort it was turned home by Motterham.
As the visitors went in search of a winner Whittington and Newsham both had shots blocked while at the other end Andrews twice went close.

With just a minute of normal time left Rotherham almost grabbed a winner but from Jamie Yates cross, Newsham's effort was just too high.
So the game went into extra time and the winning goal came on 104 minutes when Draper touched the ball home at the near post from a corner and despite desperate efforts to get back on level terms, the Millers had to settle for their runners-up medals.
Team: Hedge, Stansfield (Yates 63), Green (Pendleton 105), Burridge (Lodge 105), Pritchard, King, Duncum, Harrison, Newsham, Whittington, Taylor. Subs: Oxley, Vangucci.
