Jamal Campbell-Ryce
Rotherham United have achieved a breakthrough in the Jamal Campbell-Ryce transfer wrangle with Southend United.
In the dispute with the Millers the Essex club have today conceded that a Football League tribunal has jurisdiction to decide the matter.
Twenty-two-year-old Campbell-Ryce originally spent three months on loan to the Roots Hall club as a prelude to a £100,000 plus transfer when the transfer window opened in January. However, the Millers have not received a fee for the winger and as a result took steps through the Football League to enforce payment.
Millers chairman Peter Ruchniewicz said: "This has all been very frustrating but this is a breakthrough for us and the way is now clear for a full hearing into the transfer where we are confident of reaching a successful conclusion."
Last month (February) the tribunal heard three hours of legal submissions centred on whether it had jurisdiction over the case. However, it was unable to reach a conclusion at that stage and today's development comes in the wake of further submissions. A ruling on the substantive issues is now expected in around two weeks.
